| Counterplas was formed in 1980, and specialised in bespoke printing for the tobacco and brewery industries. The Company was based in Swadlincote, and invested in rotary and silk screen printing machines as well as hot foiling. |

In 1995, the Company had a suite of injection moulding tools manufactured to produce a range of brewery sector products, including ice buckets and drip trays. These mouldings were subcontracted and the Company focused on the finishing of the items.
The ownership of the Company changed in 2000, with the new owner wishing to go down the route of injection moulding its own products. The Company purchased 3 injection moulding machines and moved to a larger factory within Swadlincote. The business traded from there until 2004, when the business was acquired by its current owners. Counterplas was turning over £0.5m at this time.
During the first year of trading under new ownership, Counterplas was relocated to its current home in West Bromwich, which had the required space in order for the business to expand. Counterplas also purchased the facility to do in- house aluminium vacuum deposition, a process which was being sub-contracted. With the introduction of some key accounts outside the field of the brewery industry, the business saw controlled and sustained growth. By 2006, the company passed through the £1.75m turnover mark with good gross profits. This was also the year the company gained its ISO9000:2000 accreditation.
In 2007, Counterplas made its first acquisition of another moulding company, which specialised in welding and electrical assembly. This company was merged into Counterplas, and by the end of 2008 annual turnover had reached £2.5m. This year also saw the Company begin its machine replacement program.
During 2009, Counterplas continued to reinvest, and with the help of the Carbon Trust scheme a further £350,000 worth of machines were replaced. 2009 also saw turnover increase to £2.8m.
The current owners believe that investment in plant, equipment and people is the way to achieve sustained growth, profitability and customer satisfaction.
